History of Naquarnia

About 450:

The last Roman legions and many inhabitants leave the Djisr peninsula, leading to a downfall of all urban structures. In the Ghibalni mountains, the latinized but not christianized Eetalian population continues to follow traditional religions.

758:

The "Mondeo" monastery is founded by travelling monks on a mountain north of the town of Alte Ceccato, which now is located south of the Naquarnian border. The monks follow a strictly monotheistic religion combining Arianic and Islamic elements called Cathulianism. It spreads rapidly over the Djisr peninsula and the mountaineous north.

About 1000:

Arab traders set up a number of coastal settlements and found a sultanate on the southern part of the Djisr peninsula. The coastal regions are islamized.

1225:

Under pressure by the Djisr sultanate, the population of the mountaineous north founds an alliance in the centrally located traditional assembly town Arnaq. Every two years, four "Duqes" as representants of the Naquarnian Alliance were elected.

1430:

The coastal towns of Crocelinga and Nido taj' Rondinja join the Naquarnian Alliance.

About 1550:

The town of Alte Ceccato and the Mondeo monastery come under the influence of the Naquarnian Alliance.

After 1700:

The expansionist Musogradian Kingdom gains control over Crocelinga and Porto Caruso. By supporting the Naquarnians against the Djisr sultanate, Musograd gains political influence.

1788:

The Naquarnian Alliance formally accepts the Suzerainty of the King of Musograd. Naquarnia starts to become more integrated, with Muslim and Cathulic towns now under an unified rule.

1820:

Naquarnia becomes a province of the Empire of Musograd under Emperor Azrak I, who had partially Naquarnian-Arab roots.

Late 1800s:

Central control in the Musogradian Empire wanes. The governors of Naquarnia start to act independently and assume the traditional title of "Duqe".

1918.09.15:

After the assassination of Azrak III, Naquarnia declares its independence, together with its western neighbour, the City of Kosnice. The nation sets up an administrative system based on the traditional four Duqes, but that does not lead to stability.

Early 1920s:

Economic instability leads to high inflation. The border between Naquarnia and Djisr, now a republic called "Estatia", is disputed in several short wars.

1938:

A Coup d' etat leads to an authoritarian government under Gen. Otto., strongly aligned to the Musogradian Empire. The economy stabilizes, but poverty is still widespread.

1952:

The Mondeo monastery and its surrounding territory become the "Territorio Sovrano di Mondeo" with limited sovereingty under Naquarnian control.

1965.10.03:

The Treaty of Alte Ceccato formally rejoins Naquarnia to the Musogradian Empire. In practice, the state retains its self-rule under the authoritarian governorship of Gen. Otto.

1971:

Gen. Otto dies. Gen. Franco, son of Gen. Otto, becomes governor of the Province of Naquarnia, continuing the authoritarian rule. In collaboration with Gen. Franco, Estatian forces clandestinely occupy the Territorio Sovrano di Mondeo. Formally, the territory comes under "joint administration".

1983:

Gen. Franco, removed from his governorship by the new Musogradian government, openly supports the Estatian forces and becomes ruler of the "Territorio Sovrano di Mondeo". Gen. Nero becomes governor of the province and tries to isolate it from the conflicts north of the Ghibalni mountains.

1989.09.15:

By withdrawing their support from the communist government, Naquarnia and Muwillumbah trigger the "Glorious Revolution" leading to a renewed Musogradian monarchy.

1990 - 2010:

Naquarnia stays away from the conflicts within the Musogradian state, but signs the 2004 and 2007 Federation treaties, leading to it becoming a Republic. The Republic is, again, led by four "Duqes" elected by the Naquarnian Parliament. The "First Duqe" is both controlled and supported by the other three Duqes and can be deposed by a majority of them.

1997:

A legal process to resolve the situation regarding the Territorio Sovrano di Mondeo starts.

2009:

The Territorio Sovrano di Mondeo is formally added as separate entity to the Federation to clarify the position of Musograd.

2010.07.23:

After a Coup d'Etat on 2010-07-23, a Provisional Government is set up. On 2011-02-21, it is replaced by an Interim Government of neutral professionals, led by a veterinarian. Democratic elections of a new Parliament and Government are carried out in May 2011, resulting in a coalition government of liberal Islamic parties and the Trader Alliance.

2013:

The revolutionary Light! Movement gains a foothold in the elections, supported by the youth. In contrast to the Shiat al Nur movement in the Jamahiriya Murwillumbah, the movement remains peaceful, demonstrating for education and against religion and taking part in elections.

2015:

The Knowledge and Discipline Party (KDP), the strongest Islamic party, forms a coalition with Light! and the Trader Alliance to guarantee stability.

2017.06.12:

The legal conflict around the Territorio Sovrano di Mondeo is finally ended. Accepting the loss of the territory, Naquarnia and Musania are financially compensated by the Estatian government.

2019:

The 2019 elections led to a shift to the left. The traditional parties lost many votes, and a new coalition was formed, led by Alljanza Chadra / Alleanza Verde, a multicultural ecologic movement, supported by Light! and the Trader Alliance.

2020:

The Republic of Naquarnia refrains from sending forces to support Operation Shoolscath, but allowed the usage of its ports and air bases by FM forces involved in the operation. It supports the evacuation of Musogradian forces after the breakdown of the operation.

October 3rd: The Repubblika Naquarnia introduces new Constitution and national flag.

2021 / 2022:

Naquarnia becomes a founding member of the Joint Sovereign Forces and supports the new Musanian constitution.

2025:

The stability, alliance building and openness of Naquarnian politics of the last few years pays off with the election of the Naquarnian politician and former "First Duqe" Can-Luka di Nero as Secretary of the Federation of Musania.
